an Cordyceps Infected Human, apart of the Runner varity

"The combine took this fungus and rewrote it to serve their porpose."
— an unknown allied soldier when they discovered an abandoned Imperial Research Group 975 base on Lo'kini Earth in 1753 N.E.

The Cordyceps Brain Infection (abbreviated as CBI) is a parasitic fungus that has devastated the Human species on Lo'kini Earth. it's later been discovered that the Combine's Imperial Research Group 975 took a sample of the fungus native on Lo'kini Earth and rewrote it's genes to be a biological weapon to be used by the Combine during the First War.

Biology[]

The fungus first begins attacking the brain cells and planting their spores on the cerebral cortex, before spreading to the rest of the brain.

Types[]

One of the deadliest variants of CBI was when one infected was dropped into a vat of Imulsion. The Infected immerged as what IRG75 dubbed 'the Bloomer', a special infested that could release special fluid spores that can infect an organism within seconds.

Notes[]

  • Just like in real life, the name Cordycepts is the family name of a bunch of related fungus species, each one different from the other, what CBI is created from is Ophiocordyceps unilateralis species, modified to infect humans and later other sentient species.
  • Unlike the game (which is made for game mechanics) the version depicted here is a bit more realistic, as far as its' use of echolocation, meaning that people do not sneak up on them like in the game and they can find a person simply by virtue of what echolocation does, eg it uses sounds to make a mental map of their enviroment.
