The Zerg Swarm are a terrifying and ruthless amalgamation of biologically advanced, arthropodal aliens. Dedicated to the pursuit of genetic perfection, the zerg relentlessly hunt down and assimilate advanced species across the galaxy, incorporating useful genetic code into their own. Alongside the Protoss and Terrans, the he Zerg were one of the dominant races of the Demi'ini Milky Way galaxy and are universally feared, hated and hunted as such. The Swarm in itself makes up a third of the power of the Koprulu Sector.

History

Creation

In the Demi'ini Universe, the Zerg were originally from the planet Zerus when it was discovered by the fallen Xel'naga, the ancient alien race that built an empire that preceded the Ancients. Amon, a rogue member of the Xel'naga, directly intervened in the Zerg's evolutionary development to gift them with the purity of essence, making them the counterparts of the Protoss, gifted with the purity of form; the two species were intended to eventually merge to form a hybrid army for Amon. At this point the Zerg species diverged into two distinct branches; the Zerg Swarm that had been altered and the Primal Zerg that managed to avoid the tampering of Amon's xel'naga. The Xel'naga created the Overmind to control the Zerg and prevent a repeat of the Protoss' Aeon of Strife. The Overmind oversaw the Zerg swarm's rapid evolution, created the cerebrates, and divided the Swarm into broods. The primal Zerg, meanwhile, went into hiding to preserve their individuality.

However, the Xel'naga in Ulnar caught wind of Amon's plan, and sought to prevent Amon from ending the Infinite Cycle. The two factions fought one another in the space above Zerus, and the swarm was released on the Xel'naga. Most were slain and their knowledge was assimilated by the swarm. Through this, the Overmind became aware of the existence of the Protoss, and through them sought to make the Zerg Swarm perfect. However, it was aware of the directive implanted into it by Amon, and sought ways to subvert Amon's plans.

War with the Protoss

Before the rise of the Second Human Empire, along with their creations, it was said that the Zerg had long waged war with the Protoss Empire in an effort to assimulate all life.

Conflict with the Edanians

The Zerg-Edenite War occured when the Swarm reached to the planet of Eden, sparking a war within sector Aurelia that resulted with the death of thirty million souls. The capital city of Delithia became a burning battleground, but eventually turned the tide of the war for Eden's favor. As a result, the Edanians launched a counter-assault upon Zerg-occupied worlds while allying themselves with the Protoss Empire until the Swarm finally gave up and retreated back to thr planet Char. Although defeated by the Protoss and Edanians, the Zerg threat remained and waited until all of their forces were rebuilt by the time humanity occurred in the Koprulu sector of the Demi'ini universe.

First Multiverse War

They previously served as a part of the Coalition of Independent States for the time being during the First Multiverse War, the Pure Chimera were curious of their rapid evolution and conducted secret experiments with their Combine allies using strands from the Tyranids to create hybrid bio-engineered weapons. By the time Kerrigan took command of the Swarm, she learned of their intentions and was not pleased to have been deceived by the Coalition's intentions and declared war against them when knowing Amon was behind the manipulations,
