Jim's Combine Soldier

Most common and often faced variate of Combine soldiers during the First Multiverse War

Overwatch Soldiers (or more commonly known by Alliance, Axis, and Coalition forces as Combine Soldiers), are the most basic infantry units used by the Empire of the Combine Race's vast military and one primarily made up entirely of enslaved TransRace personnel, all of whom were created from recently deceased people and modified to become soldiers for the vast interuniversial Empire. The duties and responsibilities of the Combine's soldiers vary considerably, ranging from common soldiers on patrol and fighting on the frontlines or guarding key facilities and prisons. But one thing that is common among all of them is the Combine's blatant disregard for them, viewing them all as little more then cannon fodder to be sent to the frontlines and drain the enemy of resources, no matter how many soldiers are killed in the process. But despite the frequency of this tactic and their heavy loses they get from these brutal assaults, they are still highly effective and highly trained soldiers, in fact, many Allied, Coalition, various independent, and after the betrayal, former Axis personnel came to dread facing due to both their numbers and training and skill with only a handful of units not having similar feelings regarding the slave-soldiers the Combines use in the entirety of the First Multiverse War.

Combine soldiers are typically split between First and Second Generations (or Gens) soldiers, as to why the Combine Empire don't simply have one type of modification done to TransRace forces is difficult to say, but likely a combination of sadism and usefulness plays some factors, as almost every First Gen soldiers are frequently and often in command roles in some way and retaining their original selves in some manner helps to facility this effectiveness but the fact that First Gens are tortured into forgotten themselves also ensure that the sadistic Emperor Yiloala enjoys the suffering he's putting more beings through. However, because First Gens retain much more of their original selves and do not have any (or barely any) modifications done to their brains it also makes them notably more difficult to control for Combine forces and as a result First Gens are the one type of Combine soldiers more often to either defect or go awol entirely.

Second Gens are considerably more modification and effectively stripped of much of their original selves as the Combines modified and brought them back from the grave, yet this also made them loose much of their creativity and independence, although they still frequently known to create creative on-the-fly plans throughout the war but they are, beyond a doubt, controllable, so much so that they far outnumber their First Gens counterparts.

As to the exact extent of the modifications done varies per generations, but beyond a doubt, Second gens are the most extensively modified. First Gens are barely modified visibly, beyond having no body hair, having seemingly dead looking eyes and deathly pale skin tones, most of the modification are internal, with completely different, and more effective, lungs, heart, liver, and stomach, with barely any modifications done to the brain. Second Gens are far more modified, including visibly, since they can not take off their helmets unlike First Gen soldiers, due to Second Gens having their skulls so heavily modified that the helmet and mask became their new skull with much of their brain being removed if the Combine government viewed as "problem" for their slave soldiers, additionally, they now lack any reproductive systems, digestive systems, a stomach or much of any internal organs beyond the lungs and heart (or their equivalents to them depending upon the species the soldier was created from).

Following the collapse of the Combine Empire, most of these soldiers were either killed in the final battles of the First War or defected but enough of them survived the fall of the Combine Empire to serve as the backbone of many Combine Remnant factions, be they the loyalists or the opportunists, but now more often used to a much more effective manner then they did in the First War due entirely to the various Remnant factions frequently not having the resources or the means to create more TransRace Combine soldiers..
